Security, Software, and the Future of Collaboration
Dear HIFIS Community and Friends,
As the “2.0” phase of HIFIS launches, we will help to shape the future of the Helmholtz digital infrastructure.
Even before formal funding, we have established a dedicated coordinator role to drive Helmholtz-wide operational cybersecurity efforts –
developing a unified cybersecurity strategy through close collaboration with all centers and relevant working groups.
Improving service quality, reliability, and availability is a top priority:
As part of this effort, we will transition from the widely used Mattermost service to the new Helmholtz Matrix Chat, launching in March.
This more open, secure, resilient, and truly federated platform is designed for scalable, secure communication and worldwide collaboration.
The transition phase from Mattermost is planned to be finished by July.
Software is codified scientific knowledge: That’s why we are expanding our software engineering capacity, delivering enhanced consulting and training in close collaboration with HIDA, HiRSE, and JuRSE.
We are working towards sustainable, high-quality research software development as a cornerstone of our scientific infrastructure.
And there’s much more in store for HIFIS and the community.

With best regards,
The HIFIS Team
