Try Out How Easy It Is to Start a Video Conference with Let’s meet!

The Helmholtz Cloud continues to expand its service portfolio of secure, open source and German hosted digital services. We are pleased to announce the availability of Let’s meet!, a new web-based video conferencing service hosted by the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ).

Let’s meet! is built on eduMEET, an open-source platform specifically designed for research and education. It provides a sovereign, privacy-respecting, and transparent alternative to commercial video conferencing tools, aligning with Helmholtz values around digital sovereignty, openness, and data protection.

The service runs entirely in a browser and requires no local software installation, lowering technical barriers and improving accessibility. It is well suited for small to medium-sized groups and supports a wide range of collaborative use cases—from scientific meetings and teaching to interdisciplinary workshops and creative collaboration.

Let’s meet! offers a modern feature set that supports effective and inclusive online collaboration:

• High-quality video: Clear and detailed video conferencing with support for up to 4K resolution.
• Screen sharing: Share your entire desktop, a single application, or a specific window with one click.
• Chat messaging: Built-in text chat to complement spoken discussion.
• Interactive whiteboard: Collaborate visually using drawing tools, shapes, and sticky notes on a shared canvas.
• Virtual breakout rooms: Split participants into smaller groups for focused discussions and reconvene effortlessly.
• Room lock and waiting lobby: Hosts can control access via a lobby for locked rooms, ensuring privacy and moderation.

Starting a Meeting Room

Meeting rooms have to be registered in advance using the resource booking functionality in the Helmholtz Cloud Portal.

This process links the room to your Helmholtz account and grants you ownership and customization options, including access control and room configuration.

Once the host has created a meeting room, there are no prerequisites required before using Let’s meet!.
