Helmholtz Learn: A New E-Learning Service for Helmholtz

Continuous learning is an integral part of today’s modern working environments. Today, HIFIS launched a new e-learning service called Helmholtz Learn. The new service is based on Open edX, an open-source platform that supports learning scenarios from self-paced to instructor-led courses.

All employees of the Helmholtz Association are able to log in.

Wanted: Content Creators

Now the technical basis is set up, we invite you to explore the service and evaluate its possibility to locate your trainings and courses of interest!

Course administrators can:

  • Develop courses and learning materials
  • Organize and run courses for participants
  • Review assessments and provide feedback
  • Communicate with learners
  • Issue certificates

Users with the intention to offer courses in Helmholtz Learn for the whole Helmholtz Association can apply for additional permissions via support@hifis.net and request the course administrator role to be able to develop courses.

We are looking forward to interesting learning content!

Learners

Learners can:

  • Browse courses and programs offered by Helmholtz and partner organizations
  • Enroll in courses and track their progress
  • Work through learning materials (incl. videos), complete quizzes, attend scheduled instructor sessions if offered, and receive certificates for successful completion of courses
  • Connect with other learners and course instructors

The learners role is assigned to users automatically, when logging into Helmholtz Learn for the first time.

Transition of HIFIS Workshops to E-Learning

Currently, HIFIS offers online workshops for Helmholtz in a pure in-person setting led by workshop instructors. These workshops are advertised and run under the umbrella of the Helmholtz Information and Data Science Academy (HIDA). You can find them in the HIDA course catalogue.

HIFIS will now transition their workshop offerings to this new e-learning environment and will explore new learning scenarios and all capabilities offered by Helmholtz Learn.
